Summer program 2015
The Campus Life
The College Classroom Experience UB participants take courses on West Los Angeles College campus that help to fulfill their high school requirements while positively affecting their future academic endeavors.
These courses help them through their transitional phase between high school and college. In the 6-week summer program the courses include credit for 2 high school semesters in Geometry and Constitutional Law, and 3 units of College Credit in Computer Science 901 and Art 300. High School juniors and seniors take an SAT prep course that teaches valuable test taking skills. |

Fulcrum Adventures Ropes Course
Transforming Lives and Facing Fears Since the inception of Upward Bound at West Los Angeles College, there has been a consistent emphasis on the development of cooperation and a culture of positive peer interaction. One of the ways in which this is accomplished, is through team-building exercises led by Fulcrum Adventures in Culver City.
These activities lay down a strong foundation for often overlooked competencies necessary for achievement in school, the workplace, and life itself. |
Field Trips
Experiential Learning = Endless Fun
While education is the emphasis, Upward Bound participants have plenty of fun!
Regularly scheduled field trips give students the opportunity to travel and something exciting to look forward to. Such outings provide participants with rewarding new experiences and exposure to unfamiliar sites and sounds that take them out of the classrooms and out of the city limits. |

For young people who have never set foot on a the campus of a university, this experience holds greater value than what could be attained by reading a flyer, viewing a website or a published college guidebook.
Participants visited several college campuses including Cal State San Bernardino, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, UC San Diego, and USC. These visits familiarize them with the college experience, providing an unparalleled look into what the future holds. |
